Collaborating with amazing people to help children grow into lifelong learners is immensely satisfying for me.Dr. Joel Switzer
This is where teachers who love teaching, teach children to love learning.Mrs. Tina Bowman
My favorite thing about Serenity Learning Center is the academic schedule. School is only in session 3 days a week from 9-1, which allows me to focus on other priorities like my family.Ms. Emily Bacon
I love that Serenity encourages students to be who they are! I am thankful I am able to be part of this welcoming atmosphere that meets students where they are and helps them to learn in ways that work best for them. And, the students are so fun to work with and teach.Mrs. Lyndsay Walker
There is no pressure for kids to put themselves into boxes to fit some predetermined mold. They are getting to learn everything they need to, while getting to discover who they are, and become well-rounded and mindful individuals.Ms. Laney Olsen
The following are a few reviews for American Family Education. We are honored to continue their legacy and continue to serve their families here at Serenity Learning Center.
My extended family’s children are attending AFE upon my recommendation and they are loving it. When I started searching for schools for my children, I was uneasy. I felt like there was no place for my oldest. I looked into public schools and they wanted me to drop him off at school for 6 hours a day. So for 6 hours my non-verbal 6 year-old would have to fend for himself. Absolutely not! I looked into Autism Academies. There was one across the street from our home. We could hardly afford it, It seemed perfect. But they told me my son is too “severe” and they are not a good fit for him. I felt like they judged him before they got to know him. My son is non-verbal and is on the spectrum but he is pretty much neurotypical, the only thing he can not do is talk. He is a sweet and sensitive boy. I found American Family Education (AFE) at the end of 2019. My oldest and my second son are about the same age so they are in the same class. It gives me great comfort to know my boys are together. I am glad my oldest has a place for him. (When he did attend the developmental preschool at a public school he learned bad habits such as hitting himself when got upset. At AFE he is just one of the happy energetic kids.) I had the hardest time letting him go. The director let me attend a couple of classes (for about a month) with him until I felt comfortable enough he was going to be okay. My worries eased when his younger brother joined his class. I know my boys are in good hands. I believe American Family is the future of education. My boys attend the core classes (Math, Science, Grammar etc.). AFE has electives as well and I will be enrolling them as soon as they mature as they can be a bit of a handful. Right now I do take them to Karate, Parkour, and Code Ninjas for their off campus electives. American Family is unlike any school. They encourage parents to be active participants in their children’s education and development. They represented the values I wanted to instill in my children. I have two boys that attend American Family Education and they are incredibly happy.Krystal Candace
American Family Education has been an amazing choice for my children and family. We started homeschooling during the pandemic. I was unschooling my children after pulling them from public school. My children did not have well social skills struggled with reading and writing and had no idea of thier own interests. Homeschooling/unschooling was so challenging for us. We set out on an adventure of finding like minded people and a community that could support us. My oldest now reads and writes he loves making new friends and enjoys all the hands on activities. My youngest at the school (my middle child) is a free spirit she loves art and creativity. She is also very stubborn in her learning as she really wants to explore her own areas of interest. The educators here have went above and beyond to help support her and me on our journey. She loves going to school loves her teacher and (ms. Kathryn) afe director. I feel she has really came out of her shell over the last year. The school is very hands on which both my children needed. They also get to choose thier electives of choice which has been phenomenal because they get to pursue thier interests and go further with them not just at home but at school which is practically unheard of anywhere else. I am completely supported in all areas, and we communicate daily. I can join the classrooms when I would like(which was such a game changer for my children it really made them feel safe) and if my children are having a difficult time the staff is right there to communicate with me and help problem solve so we can figure it out together. 🥰 AFE is my dream school, and I am so blessed to have found the school and have the community we need to achieve the goals both my children and I have for “school”. I can not express the level of gratitude I have for such an amazing place to help support me on this learning journey I have for my children ! ❤️Ashley Simcox-Peters
We love AFE! My son enjoys the people and his teachers. He has never been happier and I appreciate the support that they give me with his school. I would feel so lost without them!AFE Mom
Amazing school/Co op . My children love it here. Staff and teachers are all aligned and share a love of conscious discipline, connection an holistic approaches. It’s so refreshing to finally have a school and support group who want to see my children succeed in life in every aspect.AFE Mom

Our family is so grateful to find American Family Education. The core values American Family Education is on the same page as the core value our family has. Our kids call American Family Education their second home.JENNIFER A
I needed some help with my homeschool. We were in a rut and unable to find our way out. We also needed a sense of community; the last few years saw us increasingly secluded. American Family Education has been a blessing to us. My children are finding their love of learning again, and they are excited to go to classes and see friends. The teachers are kind and loving, and make sure that any gaps in my kids’ knowledge are not ridiculed but filled. They aren’t made to feel less. I love that they aren’t trying to take the place of homeschooling, but work to maintain the importance of the family’s teaching. We have felt supported every step of the way.Dawn Brimhall
I didn’t think a place like this could exist. It is a home and a school. It takes work, and growth and learning, and I have loved it. My children enjoyed the classes, and loved going to the activities. I couldn’t have asked for a better place for my children to grow.AFE Mother
I have had an incredible experience with this place. It really is a space to create one’s own education, and I have loved the effects on my kids. I love the gardens, the pool, the different activities, and how hard the teachers work to help individual students. My kids love it, and never want to leave. On days they don’t have class, they ask when they get to go back and see their friends. I tried homeschooling, and co-ops, and public schools, and charter, but this is the best thing I have found out of all of them.SW
Absolutely amazing teachers. I am so thankful my kids have the opportunity to experience the hands on mentorship and encouragement.AFE Mother
Wonderful families and kids. The electives are a wide variety. I love how the school prepares kids to achieve their goals.
All 4 of our kids loved attending AFE! And as a parent I loved that they were so eager to go and enjoyed learning all the different things that were being taught. One of our sons has some emotional struggles that can be overwhelming in the classroom, but his teacher was so patient and understanding with him & I’m so grateful to her for that.Tiffany E
I wish that this school were available when my children were young. The atmosphere is inspiring and the curriculum is incredible. These kids are taught in a good wholesome environment. The kids are genuinely happy and so well mannered!Pam Goodmansen
I have been looking for a better educational opportunity for my children than what is offered in public schools for a very long time. Homeschooling didn’t work with our family schedule, and my children were struggling with being bullied, sexual harassment and neglectful or unorganized teachers in the public school system. Since we began attending AFE in August 2020, we have been so grateful to have found a solid educational program as well as teachers that are dedicated to mentoring children and encouraging their development in every area of life. My children always got good grades in public school, and followed good behavior practices, but since attending AFE their leadership skills, critical thinking, and knowledge have expanded and they LOVE going to school every day. We are so grateful for AFE!KB
Our experience here has been nothing short of amazing. I first came for the electives. Then, I enrolled my kids here to supplement what I was doing in our homeschool. It has been amazing. The education being received far surpasses our experiences in public school. My son hated school. He has ADHD and his teachers always found him annoying. Here, he is valued for who he is. His small class sizes paired with engaging teaching styles have made his ADHD a non-issue here. He actually likes going to school. My 14 year old absolutely loves diving deep into history and good literature. My 16 year old enrolled at a very dark time in her life. She had not been in school for a while but when she went for an elective, she was drawn to the loving and supportive atmosphere. In a few short months, she turned her life around. Being able to incorporate God into school, I thought would make her run. Instead, she has thrived. It’s not a stretch to say that if I hadn’t found American Family Education, she may not be here today. I am so grateful for the adults who lead with love and for the positive influence it has had on our family.AFE Mother
I’m giving a 5-star review because of the difference I’ve seen in my grandchildren and their parents. The parenting principles learned from books that recommended by the school have made a wonderful difference in their home. My SIL and daughter are responsive rather than reactive, and it has been remarkable to see the way the children are responding. They are responding with responsibility and accepting accountability. During their free time at home the children often spend it reading, or learning about a new interest. Don’t get me wrong. No one is perfect and skirmishes still happen, but the resolutions are often handled by the children, or with minimal responsive adult interaction. My daughter did not learn this in our home, unfortunately. I have seen a wonderful change in their home since becoming associated with AFE. I have been very impressed by the importance of the family that is supported here. I don’t have personal experience with the curriculum, but I can say that from what I’ve observed, this quote from Albert Einstein reflects what is happening there: ‘I never teach my pupils, I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.’ I do see a love of learning in my grandchildren. When even a 10-year-old boy, who wasn’t happy in the beginning about limited/no television, can come to his mom a few days later and list the benefits he’s experienced, I definitely have to attribute some of that to his education system.Janis F
I had the privilege of being introduced to the owner, Kathryn, several years back. I noticed right away that she had a gift with people. This gift of helping people see their amazing qualities and then building them up is why she is such an amazing leader of a school. What better way to help teach children, then to be able to build up and teach their parents how to then build up and mentor their own children. I have only ever seen good fruits come from Kathryn- kindness, love, integrity, hard work, and a passion for helping parents and children connect on a deeper level.Krystle Ovard
I’ve chosen to send my children to this school because I saw they would learn correct patterns and true principles of freedom. I’ve watched my children grow and develop in ways where they seek out good books and talent development and aren’t part of the generation of kids with their faces in screens. We are supported here in our family’s vision of what we want our personal family culture to be. We as parents, are the stewards and final say of what our children experience here, period.Mike Sagnimeni
Wonderful school where the owner and teachers care and do their best. My kids love it there and they receive a great education in an amazing environment.AFE Father
My children are attending American Family Education (AFE) for their third year. The best part about AFE is how much you as a parent get to be involved in your child’s education. The school values the parents role in teaching their children. It has a whole child approach to learning, meaning, while there are strong academics that are taught, the child is also taught regarding social and emotional matters as well.
The teacher to child ratio is small and allows the children to get extra attention. Children can learn at their own pace. Teachers are loving and kind and truly care about the children. My children come home sharing great leadership traits they have learned in class.
This school would not exist without the selfless time and energy of Kathryn and others who have build it. Kathryn and AFE promote lifelong learning, not just for school or for a subject. She promotes teaching children how to learn, not just what to learn. Kathryn is always encouraging families to strengthen their relationships. We have been blessed to be apart of American Family Education.Sincerely,
